This it is that makes pain so trying, viz. The seizure and the arraignment, and the buffeting, and the prison, and the trial, and the mocking, and the passing to and fro, and the scourging, and the crown of thorns, and the slow march to Calvary, and the crucifixion, these are all to come. Mary further claims that she was miraculously transported to the transfiguration where she was able to hear the voice of God. Paul, who expressly tells us that, "for the joy set before Him," our Lord "despised the shame". Then they placed Him in the tomb. Since his time there have been over similar manifestations which have reasonable claims to be considered genuine Poulain, "Graces of Interior Prayer", tr.
